Where do they come from? What do they mean? Answer: “I have now idea”.
It was in Canada sometime in 1999 that I was working for a large company that allowed me to have my own office space that the brain scratches made their first appearance.
My then boss, knowing that I was an artist gave permission for me to bring my sketch books, pens, pencils and eventually, coloured felt tip pens into my workspace.
It was when not on phone calls; I’d quickly start scratching away. At the end of each day, I was stunned at the results that fell before me (There’s nothing quite as exciting as making the invisible, visible). All I guess came, about by trusting hand and eyes. Credit also should be given to the quote by Paul Klee, “take a line for a walk”, which when I first read it in one of Klee’s manifestos, I’ve never forgotten.
